Palitana local taxi: 8-hour, 80-km full-day package for darshan and around

Most travellers think of Palitana as a one-stop visit — climb Shatrunjaya, descend, leave. But a surprising number of our regulars stay one or two nights in Palitana and need a flexible cab for the day. Visiting elderly relatives at a dharamshala, doing a quiet temple round across the smaller Jain shrines, picking up groceries from the local market, even a doctor's visit. For that we run an 8-hour, 80-kilometre local package starting at ₹1,800.
What the package covers
Eight hours of driver time and 80 kilometres of running, both inclusive of waiting. You decide where to go and when. If you only do 30 kilometres and 4 hours, the price is still the same — you are paying for the day, not the meter. Fuel, driver bhatta, parking and GST are included. If you go past 8 hours or 80 km, there is a small per-hour and per-km extra; we tell you upfront so there are no surprises.
Common use cases
- Pre-dawn drop at the foot of Shatrunjaya, then waiting at the base for 5–6 hours while you climb
- Round-trip to the smaller Jain temples — Hastagiri, Talaja, Mahuva — on a quieter day
- Dharamshala visits across multiple locations in town
- Market runs for prasad supplies, festive shopping
- Doctor's visits for elderly relatives staying in Palitana long-term
Vehicle options
The ₹1,800 base rate is for a sedan — Hyundai Aura or Swift Dzire, four passengers. If you need an Ertiga for a larger group, the same 8/80 package is ₹2,500. For an Innova Crysta with extra space and comfort, it is ₹3,500. Most pilgrims booking this package go with the Ertiga because it has space for the climb gear, water, snacks and ten people's footwear left in the cab while they go up.
Why pilgrims prefer this over a per-kilometre cab
Local Palitana taxis often quote on the spot and the per-kilometre rate is unpredictable. Auto-rickshaws are available but uncomfortable for families with elderly passengers and not safe for late-evening returns. A pre-booked full-day cab solves all of that — the driver is briefed on your group, knows the route, and waits without arguing about the meter. We have been running this package for Jain pilgrims for years; the regulars rebook every time they come.
Pure-veg, briefed drivers
Drivers we assign to Palitana local bookings are usually briefed on Jain customs. They know to avoid leather-heavy interiors during the Paryushan period, they understand the strict timings around darshan, and they are used to the climb-day rhythm of waiting at the base for several hours. Mention any specific need at booking — pure-veg-only stops, no music during travel, female passengers requiring privacy — and we will assign accordingly.
Questions we hear
Can we extend the package to 12 hours on the same day? Yes — we charge a small per-hour and per-kilometre extra over the 8/80 base. Can we use the same cab the next day too? Yes — we offer multi-day packages for regulars who stay two or three days in Palitana. Do you have a female driver option? On request, where available — please book at least a day in advance.
