Palitana to Mumbai cab: post-yatra return ride for Jain travellers
A surprising number of our Mumbai-based Jain travellers prefer to drive directly back to Mumbai after the Shatrunjaya yatra rather than route through Ahmedabad. The reasons are usually practical — no need to switch transport, no waiting at a station, and the family can rest in the cab while the driver covers the distance. Palitana to Mumbai is 730 km. Here is how we run it.
Distance and drive time
By road it is 730 km. A daytime drive takes 12 to 13 hours. Most families prefer to start in the late afternoon after the morning climb and overnight halt at a dharamshala — leave Palitana at 5 PM, drive through the night, reach Mumbai by 6 AM. The road is open and the temperature is much kinder after sunset. For families with elderly passengers, the overnight option is genuinely the most comfortable.
The route
Palitana → Songadh → Vallabhipur → Bagodara → Ahmedabad bypass → Vadodara → Bharuch → Surat → Vapi → Mumbai. The Vadodara–Mumbai expressway portion is the bulk of the distance and the easiest leg by far. We avoid the Ahmedabad city traffic by taking the eastern bypass; this saves 40 to 60 minutes.
What we charge
The fixed one-way Palitana to Mumbai fare is ₹10,500 for a sedan (Hyundai Aura or Swift Dzire), ₹12,500 for a Maruti Ertiga, and ₹15,000 for a Toyota Innova Crysta. The Ertiga is the most-booked option for Jain families of five to six; the Innova is for groups who prioritise legroom over price. Fares are all-inclusive — fuel, tolls (and there are eight to ten on this route), parking, GST, driver bhatta. Two drivers are included on the overnight option.
Pure-veg practicalities
We brief the driver when you book — pure-veg stops only, no overnight food halts at non-vegetarian dhabas. The Ahmedabad–Mumbai expressway has several reliable pure-veg restaurants near Anand, Nadiad and Vadodara that we use regularly. Tell us if anyone in the group has a Jain food restriction (no onion or garlic, for example) and we will plan stops at temples or specifically Jain-friendly dhabas where possible.

- Vapi — second meal stop, last clean break before Mumbai approach traffic
Drop locations in Mumbai
Our fixed fare covers any drop within Mumbai city limits — Bandra, Andheri, Vile Parle, BKC, Powai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Borivali, anywhere is fine. If you have multiple drops (for example dropping one family in Andheri and another in Vile Parle), tell us at booking; we generally absorb that into the same fare if the route stays sensible.
Questions worth answering
Can we leave during the day? Yes, daytime is fine — but the road is hotter and slower. Overnight is genuinely the better option for this distance. Are our drivers comfortable with night drives? Yes — every long-distance driver in our fleet does Mumbai runs regularly and we always assign two on overnight bookings. Can we stop at a Jain temple on the way? Yes — there are a few small temples near Surat and one in Vadodara; a 15-minute stop adds nothing significant to the time.
