Visiting Somnath Temple from Bhavnagar: When & How

Somnath, the first among the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas, draws pilgrims from across India to the Saurashtra coastline. At roughly 265 km from Bhavnagar, it is a comfortable single-day journey by cab — and an unforgettable one.
The route
The drive takes around 5 to 6 hours via Talaja and the coastal belt. The Innova Crysta is the most popular choice for this trip thanks to its comfort over the longer distance, though many families happily make it in an Ertiga.
Best time to visit
- Winter (November–February) is ideal — cool, dry and perfect for the coast
- Avoid peak monsoon, when sea winds are strong
- Mahashivratri is spectacular but extremely crowded — plan well ahead
Don't miss
- The evening Aarti and the Sound & Light show at the temple
- Bhalka Tirth, a short drive away
- Triveni Sangam, the meeting of three rivers
Many travellers extend the trip into a Somnath–Dwarka circuit. We're happy to quote a fixed multi-day fare — just tell us your plan when you book.
