Bhavnagar to Mumbai by cab: the overnight drive, route and fixed fare

Bhavnagar to Mumbai by road is around 700 km. Most travellers default to a train or a flight, and those are usually fine. But every month we get a handful of customers for whom the cab is the right answer — last-minute travel when the railway is sold out, families with elderly passengers who cannot manage airport hassle, or business travellers carrying equipment that does not survive an airline cargo trip. If that is you, here is exactly what to expect.

Two ways to do it — daytime versus overnight

Daytime: leave Bhavnagar at 5 AM, reach Mumbai by 6 or 7 PM. Long but doable; the Innova is much more pleasant than a sedan for a drive this length. Overnight: leave Bhavnagar at 8 PM, reach Mumbai by 8 AM the next morning. The road is empty after Bharuch, the temperature is bearable, and most of our Mumbai-bound regulars prefer this option. Our drivers do this run regularly — they are not first-timers.

The route

We take NH-51 to Bagodara, then NH-48 from Ahmedabad onwards — the Vadodara–Surat–Mumbai expressway. The four-lane road is in genuinely good shape from Vadodara to Vapi. Past Vapi the Mumbai approach gets denser; the Western Express Highway into Mumbai is the slowest part of the entire trip and rarely flows below 30 km/h in working hours. Plan your arrival accordingly.

What we charge

The fixed one-way Bhavnagar to Mumbai fare is ₹9,500 for a sedan, ₹12,000 for a Maruti Ertiga, and ₹17,000 for a Toyota Innova Crysta. The Innova is genuinely worth the extra on this trip — the extra legroom matters after eight hours. The fare is all-inclusive — fuel, all toll plazas (and there are several on this route), driver bhatta, parking, GST. A second driver is included on the overnight option at no extra charge for safety.

• Bagodara — first chai, 90 minutes out
• Anand or Nadiad — meal stop on the expressway, 3 hours in
• Bharuch or Surat — second meal or longer break, 5 hours in
• Vapi — last clean food stop before the Mumbai approach traffic begins

Honest comparison with train and flight

If the Mumbai Express has tickets, the train is cheaper and faster than the cab. If you can fly Bhavnagar to Mumbai direct, do it — the flight is the most efficient option by far. The cab makes sense for door-to-door delivery (no taxi swap at the station or airport), late-night arrivals, large luggage, and groups of four to six where the per-person cost actually comes down below a flight.

Is overnight safe? Yes — we run two drivers, we stick to the expressway, we have done the route hundreds of times. Can you drop us anywhere in Mumbai? Yes — the fixed fare covers any drop point within the city limits, including Navi Mumbai. Past Thane there is usually no extra charge if it is on the way. For a return drop the next morning, ask for the round-trip fare.
